Education

Hey everyone,

I’m currently exploring options for online master’s programs in data science and related fields. While certain programs like OMSA, UT, and UC Berkeley often top rankings, lesser-known ones like Bay Path, University of West Florida, and CUNY SPS don’t get as much discussion.

Since online rankings can be unreliable, I’m curious to hear about your experiences with any online master’s program in data science, analytics, or statistics:

  • Which school did you attend?
  • Overall, have you had a positive experience? Would you recommend it?
  • What has your online education experience been like? Are classes large or small? How is the instruction quality? Do you interact with professors, TAs, and other students?

I hope this question helps others too.

Edit: I should clarify that I’m also interested in data science-related master’s degrees, including analytics and statistics programs.

What are your views on this?

I believe there’s a rationale behind why certain programs are more well-known than others. Personally, for credentialing purposes, I prefer graduating from a program that has a positive reputation and is recognized by others, rather than from one that is less familiar.

Just to give you a quick overview, I completed an online Master of Computer Science in Data Science program offered by the University of Illinois. It took me three years to finish the program while studying part-time. To graduate, I needed to complete a total of 8 courses. I decided to take one course per semester, which meant I would be taking 3 courses per year.
