Hey guys,
I’m looking for crime data at the zip code level, specifically raw data covering different types of crime. The FBI website I checked seems to only offer aggregated data. Any ideas where I can find more detailed information?
Thanks!

As someone who has experience with open data in local government, this is not the case. Finding open data sources at the county or local level and structuring from there would be your best option. Even if it won’t be perfect, you could at least acquire more focused insights and build a stronger model than you could with FBI-level data.
I’m fairly certain that this doesn’t exist for free. A vendor might make an offer, but I would research how they stay current. Furthermore, as zip codes represent postal delivery routes rather than specific units, they are not the ideal statistic measurement method.
That’s a common challenge! The FBI’s UCR Program primarily offers data at the agency (police department) level, not zip code. A number of states and cities maintain open data portals where they publish crime data, sometimes including zip code breakdowns. Search for “[State name] open data portal” or “[City name] open data portal”. These datasets might be more detailed than national UCR data.
Many police departments and sheriff’s offices publish crime data on their websites. This data might be more current but may lack consistency across different jurisdictions.
