Hey guys, I am considering enrolling in a data science Bootcamp. Any recommendations on the most effective ones with great job placement? Share your experiences and tips!
Did you go to university?
Data science is hard. Writing the code in numpy or SQL is the easy part. Interpreting that data, doing meaningful things with it, that’s the hard part. I don’t think you’ll find work without a relevant degree. You can be the best programmer in the room, know the stack top to bottom, but you’ll still be beaten out by someone with a Master’s for a job since it’s worth way more than Codecademy is.
You can’t become a Data Scientist by taking an online course. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or math is required, as is a master’s degree in data science, or several years of experience in a similar field of employment. Data science is a rather advanced subject, and much like coding and data occupations, it has witnessed a surge in applicants, making it competitive even for those with the degrees employers need. Since the hiring bar is a little lower, you could want to consider becoming a data analyst and developing your skills over a few years to see if you could break in that way. That won’t be easy still.
