What on Earth are these "3 Vs" of Big Data?

I’m kinda new to this whole data science thing, but I keep hearing about these “3 Vs” of Big Data. I remember trying to build a small database for my online store, and I was overwhelmed by how much data I was dealing with. Like, customer info, sales figures, website traffic - it was crazy. So, I’m guessing these Vs have something to do with that, right? Can someone please break it down for me like I’m five?

I totally get where you’re coming from! The “3 Vs” of Big Data are a great way to simplify what you experienced. They stand for Volume, Variety, and Velocity. Volume refers to the sheer amount of data you’re dealing with—like all the customer info, sales figures, and website traffic you mentioned. Variety means the different types of data you have, such as structured data (like numbers and text) and unstructured data (like images and social media posts). Velocity is about how fast the data is coming in and needs to be processed. So, in your case, dealing with all this diverse and rapidly changing data is what the 3 Vs are all about.

3 Vs is a marketing or business term and Don’t read too much into it. It’s supposed to be catchy and evocative and not be a conceptual tool for analysis.

The sheer amount, diverse types, and rapid flow of data are the primary challenges of managing big data.
