What Do Data Analysts Do?

I’m curious to know more about what data analysts do in their day-to-day work. I understand it involves working with numbers and spreadsheets, but I’d love to hear specific examples of how data analysis has influenced real decisions within a company. If you’re a data analyst, could you share some challenges you face or successes you’ve had that really showcase the impact of your work? I’m looking to gain a better understanding before possibly diving into this field, so any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

From what I’ve gathered, a significant portion of the work involves data cleansing, which I personally find quite enjoyable.

Data analysts collect, process, and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights. They use statistical tools and software to interpret data, create visualizations, and generate reports, helping organizations make informed decisions and improve business performance.

I work as a Data Scientist. I usually spend 40% of my week coding or working on my own projects. I currently only have one project ongoing, which we expect finishing in December. Next month, I hope to be added to another project so that I can work on it part-time. About 20% of my time is spent looking into new technologies that we could use, 20% is spent gathering and cleaning data, and 20% is spent playing about on the internet (well, the remaining 20% is spent in meetings).

Data analysts collect, purify, examine, and derive business insights from historical data. They explain to us what took place and why. On the other hand, data scientists use sophisticated machine learning techniques, such as neural networks, to forecast patterns, make predictions, and suggest fixes.
