I’m at a crossroads in my career and trying to decide between becoming a software engineer or a data scientist. Can anyone share their experiences or insights on what each role is like day-to-day? What are the pros and cons of each path?
Depending on your passions, which I believe should be the compass that dictates what you want in life.
So if you are into making computer software you should venture into software engineering
whereas
if you are good at math and analysing big data and you still like coding you should consider Data Science
I’m a software engineer, but I worked heavily on data science stuff, I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as you choose what you are interested in.

Appreciate any advice!
[/quote]Hey,
As a software engineer, you’ll focus on building and maintaining software, coding, and solving technical problems. As a data scientist, you’ll analyze data to provide insights and predictions, often involving statistical models and data visualization. Engineers often work on complex systems, while data scientists dive into data trends. Consider what excites you more: coding and system design or data analysis and modeling. Both fields offer strong growth opportunities
