Preparing for Initial Screening: IC2 Data Science Position Microsoft — What Should I Expect?

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some guidance on how to best prepare for and what to anticipate from my forthcoming 30-minute first screening for an IC2 Data Science post. Since this will be my first round, I’m not sure if it will be primarily technical, behavioral, or a combination of the two.

Would you mind sharing your experiences with others who have had similar interviews? In particular:

Which subjects ought to be my top priorities for technical preparation?

Are there any typical inquiries for IC2 or other entry-level data science positions?

Should I anticipate more attention to my completed projects or code questions?

Any advice on how to quickly demonstrate soft skills?

Im familiar with SQL, Python, and some ML algorithms, but I want to make sure I’m covering all my bases before the interview.

Thanks in advance!

What org? And do you know who you are interviewing with, e.g recruiter, hiring manager etc?

I’d imagine the first screening will be mostly behavioural/talking through your experience. Technical stuff will come later from my experience

It’s a given that “different teams can be as different as different companies because it’s a fucking massive company.” Basically, things may be adjusted if you are interviewing for a DS that focuses more on analytics, etc. Finding out if you are in a certain organization (such as Azure, Security, etc.) might help you focus your search. If you are going straight to a product, it may be different, research is different again, etc.

If you’re a student, I think this call will be used in part to place you in an organization if the recruiter decides to move on. The following step, in my opinion, would be a “super day” interview with the particular team you would be assigned to.
