I’m a senior about to graduate with a major in Data Science. I’m curious about the starting salary for data analysts/scientists at mid-tier companies in the Dallas, TX area. I’ve been checking out figures on platforms like Glassdoor, Zip Recruiter, Indeed, and others, but I’m seeing a wide range of numbers.
It’s great that you’re exploring your options! Salaries for data analysts and scientists can vary based on factors like company size, industry, experience level, and specific skills. In the Dallas, TX area, mid-tier companies might offer starting salaries ranging from around $60,000 to $90,000 annually for entry-level positions, depending on the factors mentioned above. However, this range can fluctuate based on the current demand for data science skills in the region and the individual company’s budget and priorities. It’s always a good idea to research specific companies you’re interested in and reach out to professionals in your network for insights into local salary trends.
For Data Analysts, the average base salary is around $68,253 per year, with a range typically between $50,000 and $91,0001. Entry-level positions may start lower, around $59,937 for less than one year of experience.
As for Data Scientists, the average salary is a bit higher, with an average of $95,521 per year. The range for these positions typically falls between $68,000 and $128,0002. Entry-level data scientists can expect to earn an average of $78,103.
According to me what i can say is that, the average salary for Entry Level Data Scientist is $70,000 to $90,000 per year in the United States. The salary of a data scientist can vary significantly depending on experience, education and industry. These figures are generally estimated and can vary widely based on specific companies, additional skills, certifications, and the the overall demand for the data science professionals in the area.
But i thought they have hiked it over the recent years…
Thank you so much for your detailed response!!!
Depending on where you are, but as a BI analyst at a medium-sized SaaS company, I was making in the low hundreds. I actually ended up making a significant amount of changes immediately away after we were acquired. Total pay, incidentally.
I worked in BI roles for around two to three years before landing a real DS role.
It truly is dependent upon your location. I’ve seen DS positions pay roughly 65 in the Midwest, 90 in Washington, DC, and even 120 in San Francisco. As a junior, your median pay would likely be about 75, but it might be as low as 50 or as high as maybe 90 (again depending on region). The median compensation for a data scientist was approximately 100k with a somewhat wide standard variation last year.
I’m less knowledgeable about data science roles. The market is flooded so that will start to drive down the salaries at some point I’d expect. I’ve never personally seen a role for less than $100k but I know folks (straight out of school) that have landed $70k roles as a junior data scientist.
It really depends, in my opinion, on where you work. At my job, the top pay range for a data scientist is between $200k and $300k. I don’t know how many data scientists are compensated so highly. Not even close to that do I make. At the junior level, compensation ranges from $75–$85k, plus an annual bonus of up to 5%.
Alexander, thanks for the information! Seeing how much salaries can differ by region is interesting. It’s encouraging to see that a rookie data scientist can expect to make up to $75,000 per year, depending on their location.
