Just finished my undergrad in visual arts and emerging media management. Now, I’m eyeing grad school for Data Science. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the career path and any school recommendations you might have. Also, I came across the idea of pursuing a dual master’s in statistics or computer science alongside Data Science. Do you think that’s the way to go for future career prospects? Thanks a bunch!
I might not be well-versed in your specific degree, but I can confidently say that proficiency in Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics and Probability, as well as programming, is essential preparation for graduate school. Without these foundational skills, pursuing advanced studies could prove challenging. While having most of these skills might enable you to navigate graduate studies, it would still require considerable effort.
I don’t know much about your degree, admittedly, but I will say that if you don’t have a solid understanding of Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics and Probability, and programming, you aren’t yet prepared for those grad school options. You might manage if you have a strong grasp of most of these areas, but it will definitely be an uphill battle .
I believe that a good number of colleges already offer master’s degrees in data science. To begin with, start by taking a job in data science and even labour for free to get expertise. Appropriate quantities of programming, statistics, and domain principles are covered in these courses. Maybe you ought to pursue that.
